The 57-year-old Keir Starmer (ilustrat) made a fulsome apology to British Jews as he was confirmed as Jeremy Corbyn’s replacement, vowing to rip out the ‘poison’ that has dogged the party under his predecessor.

“As the new leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir has no time to lose in making good on his pledge to ‘take personal responsibility’ for the Party’s antisemitism crisis and rebuild relations with the Jewish community,’’ said Gideon Falter, Chief Executive of Campaign Against Antisemitism, in a reaction to the election of Keir Starmer as new leader of the Labour Party. Starmer succeeds Jeremy Corbyn.

‘’This must start with addressing our outstanding complaints against Jeremy Corbyn and disciplining him in order to send a message that anti-Jewish racism no longer has a home in the Labour Party. Only once Sir Keir has shown that he is serious in tackling antisemitism can the Jewish community begin to engage with him in earnest,” Falter added.

Keir Starmer has vowed to wipe out the ‘stain’ of anti-Semitism from the Labour Party.’’I will tear out this poison by its roots,’’ he said. ‘

A former director of public prosecutions, the St Pancras and Holborn MP won with 56.2 per cent after a single round of voting, giving him a powerful mandate for his leadership.
